Emerson L. Cummings

Lieutenant General Emerson L. CummingsLieutenant General Emerson L. Cummings was born in Michigan on March 16, 1902 and graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1924.

He served as Chief of Ordnance from 1953 to 1958, as Deputy Commanding General of the 8th Army in Korea from 1958 to 1960, and as Commanding General of the 5th Army from 1961 to 1962.

His distinguished career spannned over 38 years of active service. He organized the Commodity Command, establishing industry advisory groups.

During his tenure as Chief of Ordnance, the first U.S. satellite was put into orbit launched by a Redstone missile. General Cummings retired from active duty in 1962 and died in Florida on January 24, 1986.
