Jack A. Apperson

Brigadier General Jack A. Apperson was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia on December 21, 1934 and graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1957. He served in a variety of demanding capacities as company commander, battalion executive officer, assistant professor at West Point, branch personnel officer, battalion commander, and depot commander.

As Deputy Commanding General of the Missile Materiel Readiness Command and then the Missile Command during the years 1979 to 1981, he planned and executed major organizational changes. He helped direct the merger of two major commands and the activation of the U.S. Army Missile Command. He helped create a new innovative approach to wholesale logistics, augmented retail logistics support, and consolidated worldwide meteorology and calibration support at Redstone Arsenal. Under his command, the materiel readiness and the morale and productivity of his personnel stood at all time highs. As the commanding general, Depot Systems Command, his contributions paid long-lasting dividends in enhancing the Army depot system's support to the fighting force of the 1980's and early 1990's.

Since his retirement from the Army in 1983, General Apperson has continued to serve many of the materiel needs of Ordnance in private industry.
