Charles M. Murray

Major General Charles M. Murray was born in Laurel, Mississippi on October 18, 1932 and graduated from the University of Nebraska. From 1950 until 1958, he was enlisted and served in a number of combat leadership positions as a noncommissioned officer during the Korean Conflict. He was the senior person in his platoon as a 19-year-old sergeant. In 1958, he attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as an infantry officer.

While assigned to a special weapons depot company in Germany, he transferred to Ordnance. He attended the Ordnance Officer Ammunition Course and began serving in various maintenance assignments in Vietnam and then at the U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii where he ran the ground munitions program for the Pacific Theater. He commanded a maintenance battalion in Europe, then served as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics, U.S. Army Europe. He returned to Washington in 1975 and was a logistics staff officer for the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics until 1978. He returned to Europe in 1979 and commanded the 3rd Infantry Division Support Command. In 1982, he became the Deputy Commanding General for Procurement and Readiness for the U.S. Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal. As a brigadier general, in 1984, he took command of the 19th Support Command in Korea. He was the Director of Supply and Maintenance in the office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics at the Pentagon between 1986 and 1989.

General Murray's final assignment prior to retirement was that of Deputy Chief of Staff for Supply, Maintenance, and Transportation at the Army Materiel Command from 1989 to 1991.
