Leo J. Pigaty

Lieutenant General Leo J. Pigaty was born in Derby, Connecticut on February 15, 1940 and graduated from Lafayette College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1961. His overseas tours of duty include Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and Germany. Included in his assignments were two tours at the Ordnance Center and School in the 1960's and early 1970's.

As a battalion commander in Germany, he supported units in all regions of VII Corps. From 1982 to 1984, he was the commander of Anniston Army Depot and was responsible for initiating pilot overhaul of the M1 Abrams tank and for establishing the Army's Turbine Engine Overhaul Facility.

As the commanding general of the Defense Industrial Supply Center from 1987 to 1989, he established new levels of satisfaction with Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps customers. His last command assignment was at the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive Command, from 1989 to 1992. As the commanding general, he initiated uniquely effective programs of procurement and supply support; depot maintenance; and research, development, and engineering initiatives for combat and tactical vehicles. During Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm, he worked with contractors to ensure industrial base commitment and with deploying forces to assure all needs were met.

After serving 12 years in Army Materiel Command (AMC) field units, he culminated his career as the Deputy Commanding General, at AMC Headquarters. He retired in 1994, and is now the vice president at Los Alamos Technical Associates in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
