Gregory A. Gouty

Chief Warrant Officer Four Gregory A. GoutyChief Warrant Officer Four Gregory A. Gouty was born on February 18, 1958 in Fort Meade, MD. In 1977, Gouty attended Basic Training at Fort Dix, NJ and graduated Advanced Individual Training at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD as a Track Vehicle Mechanic.

His first assignment was with the 5th Maintenance Company, 66th Maintenance Battalion in Kaiserslautern, Germany from 1977 to 1979. Following this, Gouty served as Acting Sergeant and Shop Section Non-Commissioned Officer-in-Charge (NCOIC) in ‘D’ Company, 197th Infantry Battalion at Fort Benning, GA. Beginning in 1981, Gouty served as a Technical Inspector with the 183rd Maintenance Company, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson.

Returning to Germany in 1982, Gouty was assigned as the Technical Inspector and Unit Motor Sergeant with the 504th Maintenance Company, 71st Corps Support Battalion, and participated in multiple rotations to Grafenwoehr. Gouty, next, was assigned as an Instructor in the 16th Ordnance Battalion, 61st Ordnance Brigade at Aberdeen Proving Ground in 1985. In recognition of his skills, Gouty was selected to become an Ordnance Warrant Officer and he completed his Warrant Officer Entry and Technical Certification Courses as the honor graduate in 1988.

Gouty’s first assignment as a Warrant Officer was as a Maintenance Technician with the 608th Ordnance Company, 36th Engineer Group at Fort Benning, GA. He led a Ranger Support Element supporting the 75th Ranger Regiment's deployment to Panama for Operation Just Cause. He was the driving force which prepared, coordinated, and deployed the unit's equipment to Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm within 96 hours of deployment notification with an equipment availability rating of 100% fully mission-capable.

Gouty returned to Germany in 1992 for his next two assignments. First, he was the Battalion Maintenance Technician for the 2nd Attack Helicopter Battalion, 11th Aviation Brigade. He played a key leadership role in the inactivation of the Battalion ensuring all of its assets, totaling $6.8 million, were redistributed to other units in support of their missions. Upon inactivation, he was assigned to the 103rd Military Intelligence Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division as the Battalion Maintenance Technician until 1995.

Upon return to the United States, he was assigned to the 514th Maintenance Company, 10th Mountain Division, at Fort Drum, NY, as a Direct Support Maintenance Technician and Platoon Leader of a 53 personnel Automotive and Armament platoon. Following this assignment, he attended the Warrant Officer Advanced Course and graduated as the Honor Graduate.

Upon graduation, he was assigned to Bravo Company, 10th Forward Support Battalion, 10th Division Support Command, 10th Mountain Division, as their Direct Support Maintenance Technician and Shop Officer. He directly contributed to maintaining a brigade task force readiness rate of over 97%. He consistently emphasized leadership development and served as a mentor to the other warrant officers in the battalion.

In 1998, Gouty returned to Aberdeen Proving Ground and the 61st Ordnance Brigade’s Warrant Officer Professional Development Division (WOPDD), as a Senior Instructor and primary training instructor for all Standard Army Maintenance System - One (SAMS-1) for the Warrant Officer Basic and Advanced Courses until December 2001. He trained the SAMS-1 to over 900 Warrant Officers and civilians. He was selected as the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School's Warrant Officer Instructor of the Year for Fiscal Year 2000.

Following duty at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Gouty attended the Logistics Executive Development Course conducted in conjunction with the Florida Institute of Technology at the Army Logistic Management College at Fort Gregg-Adams, VA. Upon completion, he received a Masters of Science in Logistics Management degree from the Florida Institute of Technology; he was the 6th Ordnance Warrant Officer to attend and graduate from the program.

Gouty’s final assignment was with the 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command at Fort Bliss, TX as the Brigade Maintenance Officer and Support Operations Officer. From 2003 until 2005, he supervised the maintenance operations of a PATRIOT Battalion, Direct Support Maintenance Company, and three National Guard battalions.

Chief Warrant Officer Four Gregory A. Gouty retired on February 1, 2005.
