Steven M. Anderson  

BG Steven M. Anderson was born on August 6, 1956 in Elmhurst, Illinois. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1978 and selected Ordnance as his branch of service. Following graduation from Ordnance Officer Basic Course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, he served as a Platoon Leader and Battalion Motor Officer for 64th Support Battalion and 64th Armor Battalion in Germany. BG Anderson returned to the 64th Support Battalion in 1979 as the Shop Officer for ‘A’ Company.

Following his return to the United States and his assignment as the Battalion S4 for the 1102nd Signal Battalion at Fort Lewis, Washington, he assumed his first command in 1982 as the Company Commander of 542nd Maintenance Company. Following his command tour, he reported as the Plans Officer for the 593rd Area Support Group.

Following attendance at the Combined Arms Services Staff School at Fort Leavenworth and the Naval Postgraduate School, where he received an M.S. in Operations Research and Systems Analysis Engineering, he reported to the Army Staff as a Staff Officer in the Strategy, Plans, and Policy section of the Deputy Chief of Staff – Ops and Plans in 1987. He remained in that office to serve as the Executive Officer to the Director from 1988-1990.

Following his graduation from the Marine Command and Staff College in 1991, he reported to the 724th Main Support Battalion where he served as the Support Operations Officer and the Executive Officer until 1993. BG Anderson remained at Fort Stewart, Georgia and reported aboard as the 24th Infantry Division Materiel Management Officer, and then as the Executive Officer for the 24th Infantry Division Support Command.

In 1995, BG Anderson assumed command of the 725th Main Support Battalion until 1997. Following his command tour and attendance at the Army War College, he reported as the Chief of Logistics Operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff – J4, Logistics Readiness Center at the Pentagon. He returned to Korea in 2000 as the Commander of the 2nd Infantry Division Support Command, where he commanded more than 2500 logistics soldiers forward-deployed to the northern sector of South Korea on 19 different installations.

Following duty as Executive Officer to the Deputy Commander of Army Materiel Command and the Army G-4, BG Anderson became the senior U.S. logistician in Korea (Deputy C-4 for the United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command and J4, United States Forces Korea) in 2004 to 2006, and spearheaded the development of Camp Humphreys, the new combined and U.S. headquarters facility in central Korea.

In 2006, Brigadier General Anderson served as the Multi-National Forces – Iraq, Director of Sustainment and Resources (MNF-I C4) of a 32-nation coalition conducting warfighting in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. BG Anderson led a multi-national coalition planning effort to expand logistics capabilities and infrastructure in support of the 5-brigade surge in early 2007, to include logistical, medical, personnel, and financial management (over $20B annually), and successfully enabled an additional 50K troops to deploy flawlessly into the Iraq theater and enable them to execute their missions without fail.

BG Anderson culminated his Army career in 2008 as the Director, Operations and Logistics Readiness, G43, on the Army staff at the Pentagon. He led a staff responsible for all Army logistics readiness reporting, served as Army lead for resourcing and policy regarding weapon systems sustainment, war reserve stocks, expeditionary housing, and ran the Army’s Logistics Operations Center - a 24 hour/7 days-a-week operations center located in Pentagon.

BG Steven M. Anderson retired on March 1, 2010.
