Command Sergeant Major Otis Cuffee was born on June 6, 1957 in Chester, Pennsylvania. In 1975, he enlisted in the Army and completed Advanced Individual Training at Aberdeen Proving Ground as a Recovery Specialist. Following his initial assignment with the 27th Maintenance Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas, he attended Basic Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Over the course of a 37 year Army career, Command Sergeant Major Cuffee served in a multitude of leadership positions from squad leader to Sergeant Major, including instructor billets at the Basic Airborne Training Course and the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy Advanced Course.
Following his assignments as the Command Sergeant Major for the 46th Corps Support Group, supporting the XVIII Airborne Corps, and the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, Command Sergeant Major Cuffee culminated his military career in 2010 as the Command Sergeant Major for the Defense Logistics Agency at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
He served as the Senior Enlisted Leader and advisor to the agency’s 3-star Director on all matters affecting the warfighter. He extended the reach of the Director and Executive Staff throughout the globe by bringing the Director’s strategic focus to the multitude of DLA’s supported customer organizations. During the major shift of operational focus from Iraq to Afghanistan during his tenure, Command Sergeant Major Cuffee utilized his operational experience and leadership to ensure the Director always had the necessary information to make decisions of strategic importance.
