Command Sergeant Major Larry Taylor was born on February 10, 1960 in Augusta Georgia. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Field Artillery Cannon Crewman in 1978. He transferred into the Ordnance Corps in 1984 with the Military Occupational Specialty 55G, Nuclear Weapons Specialist, and later reclassified as a 55B, Ammunition Specialist. During his 30-year career, he established a record of superior leadership and dedication.
In 1993, Command Sergeant Major Taylor was selected to become a Company First Sergeant. During his tenure, he served for five ordnance companies; two of which controlled sensitive, special munitions, two headquarters companies, and one training company. While assigned to the 23rd Ordnance Company, he was instrumental in developing and leading the deployment of the 191st Ordnance Battalion from Germany to Tazar, Hungary. This unit was charged with the establishment of the Intermediate Staging Base for operations in support of Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia, including the development of the life support area, convoy staging area, Ammunition Supply Point, and cargo area.
Beginning in 1999, Command Sergeant Major Taylor served, not only as the Commandant of the Missile and Munitions Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, but also five Command Sergeant Major assignments, including the 832nd Ordnance Battalion, 59th Ordnance Brigade, 19th Theater Support Command, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Monroe Virginia, and the U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command at Rock Island Arsenal. In this final assignment, his impact reached across depots, ammunition plants, and brigade level activities consisting of over 14,000 individuals.
