Mr. Alan Beuster was born on October 13, 1955 in Kewanee, Illinois. After finishing his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, he began his 31-year government career in 1981 in the Production Support and Replacement Office at the U.S. Army Armament, Munitions, and Chemical Command (AMCCOM) at Rock Island Arsenal. Over the course of the next three decades, he served in several assignments, including the Division Chief of the Armament and Chemical Branch of the Industrial Readiness Directorate, Chief of the Industrial Preparedness Division, and ultimately as the Director of the Industrial Support Directorate for U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command.
Mr. Beuster became an expert on the multitude of issues which affected the proper analysis and management of the ammunition industrial base in order to effect its efficient operation and readiness. He played a leading role in the development of the Single Manager for Conventional Ammunition (SMCA) Industrial Base Assessment Tool (IBAT) and he contributed to the Munitions Readiness Report (MRR) through the development of the production base rating which is used to measure and report the readiness status of conventional ammunition and tactical missiles. As well, he published the Ammunition Industrial Base Strategic Plan, a dynamic document that represents the goals and tactics used to position the industrial base to respond to current and future requirements.
Mr. Beuster has been given numerous awards, including the U.S. Army Exceptional Civilian Service Award, the National Defense Industrial Association’s William R. Mosley Award in 2005, and the National Defense Industrial Association’s Major General Paul Greenberg Award (Iowa/Illinois chapter) in 2008.
Mr. Beuster retired in 2012.
