Chief Warrant Officer Five Lawrence R. BlackwellChief Warrant Officer Five Lawrence Blackwell was born on May 20, 1961 in Brodnax, Virginia, and joined the Army in 1979. After eleven years as an enlisted and Noncommissioned Officer, he was appointed a Warrant Officer in 1990 and began his 21-year career in the Warrant Officer ranks with multiple deployments overseas in support of the contingency operations.

From 2006 through 2008, CW5 Blackwell was attached to the 1st Armor Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom and supported over 2,000 tracked and wheeled vehicles organized for combat operations. He directly contributed to the 97% operations readiness rate for the Brigade Combat Team while deployed in a combat zone. His efforts enabled units to conduct over 300 combat, logistical patrols, traveling over 76,000 mile.

CW5 Blackwell culminated his career in 2009 as he provided timely logistics support and leadership to the 1st Cavalry Division in a deployment with over 3,000 pieces of equipment. He coordinated and synchronized the efforts of the Defense Logistics Agency, U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armanents Command, and the Joint Munitions Command in support of a Brigade Combat Team deployed to Iraq. He coordinated the 402nd Army Field Support Brigade Mobile Retrograde Property Assistance Team to receive, process and retrograde over 600 vehicles and 1,000 pieces of class VII rolling stock. Upon return from Operation Iraqi Freedom, CW5 Blackwell monitored and synchronized the repair and return of over 26,000 individual pieces of equipment through the Army Sustainment Command RESET program.

Chief Warrant Officer Five Blackwell retired in 2011.
