Kurt J. Stein

Major General Kurt J. SteinMajor General Jurt J. Stein was born in 1959 and joined the Army when he was seventeen in 1976. In 1982, after six years of enlisted and Noncommissioned Officer experience rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, he was commissioned as an Ordnance Officer from Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia.

His 38-year Army career consisted of assignments of ever-increasing responsibility and leadership; including, Command of D Company, 123rd Main Support Battalion, 1st Armored Division; and Commander of Division Support Command (DISCOM) for the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea.

During his assignment as the C-4/J-4 for United States Forces in Korea as the principal logistician, he was promoted to Brigadier General in August 2007. Following this assignment, Major General Stein deployed to IRaq and served as the Multi-National Forces-Iraq (MNF-I) CJ 1/4/8.

In January 2010, Major General Stein became the Commanding General of the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command where he led a workforce of more than 24,000 in the development, acquisition, fielding and sustainment of nearly 3,500 fielded Soldier and Ground System end items.

In June 2012, Major General Stein culminated his career as the Commanding General, 1st Sustainment Command (Theater). He led the drawdown of forces and retrograde operations from Afghanistan as well as exercising Single Logistics Command and Control for all sustainment operations and the CENTCOM Material Recovery Element (CMRE) during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Major General Stein retired in June 2014.
