Chief Warrant Officer Five Willie M. Dickens is a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and he entered the Army in April 1969. CW5 Dickens completed basic training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He served as an Engineer Equipment Mechanic and Motor Sergeant and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. CW5 Dickens began his 27-year career as a Warrant Officer in April 1977 when he was appointed as a Warrant Officer One.
During his career, CW5 Dickens served as a maintenance technician in a diverse number of organizations; including the 35th Signal Brigade, 20th Engineering Brigade, 519th Military Intelligence Battalion, and the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg; the 302nd Maintenance Company and the 702nd Maintenance Battalion with the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea; and the 33rd Ordnance Company and 545th Ordnance Company in Germany.
CW5 Dickens culminated his Warrant Officer career with his appointment as the Army’s first Warrant Officer to be assigned as a Logistics Assistance Officer in 1998. During this assignment, he represented U.S. Army Materiel Command within U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) in resolving retail and wholesale materiel readiness problems within USASOC and attached units. He supervised twelve Logistic Assistance Representatives, monitored materials and effectiveness of supported units, advised the Commanding General of USASOC and subordinate units on wholesale logistic matters, and assured successful fielding and support of new equipment to USASOC units.
