Command Sergeant Major Cynthia Hughes

Command Sergeant Major Cynthia Hughes enlisted in the Army in 1985 and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Advanced Individual Training at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. She was certified as a Land Combat Electronic Missile System Repairer (MOS 27E) maintaining TOW/Dragon missile systems.

Throughout her 24-year Army career, she continuously held assignments of ever-increasing responsibility and leadership; including Senior Drill Sergeant for Company ā€˜Cā€™ and First Sergeant of Company ā€˜Dā€™, 832nd Ordnance Battalion, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. In 2000, CSM Hughes returned to the 27th Main Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, and assumed the duties as Maintenance Control Supervisor where she provided direct support maintenance to three maneuver brigades and one aviation brigade in a heavy armored, rapid deployment division.

Upon completion of the Sergeants Major Academy and her follow-on assignment with U.S. Army V Corps in Germany, CSM Hughes reported as the Command Sergeant Major for the 73rd Ordnance Battalion at Fort Eisenhower, Georgia in 2005. During her tenure, the battalion received over 25 commendable ratings during the 59th Ordnance Brigade Command Inspection Program and also received the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and Schools Commanding Generals Award for the Best Safety Program in the Regiment for two consecutive years.

CSM Hughes culminated her career as the Commandant of the U.S. Army Ordnance Munitions and Electronic Maintenance School Non-Commissioned Officer Academy in 2007. She was responsible for the training and professional development of 500 students attending both the Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course and the Battalion Non-Commissioned Officer Course, as well as the cadre and staff.

Command Sergeant Major Cynthia Hughes retired in 2009.
