Mr. A. David Mills

Mr. A. David Mills began his 43-year career in the federal service when he joined the U.S. Army Ordnance Weapons Command, a component of the new U.S. Army Materiel Command, at Rock Island, Illinois in 1962. Following assignments as the Deputy Chief of the U.S. Army Supply and Services Activity at Sattahip, Thailand and Chief of the Maintenance and Repair Part Branch at the U.S. Army Logistics Center at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia, in 1979, he became the Chief of the Tactical Communications and Automated Data Processing Division of the U.S. Army Communication and Electronics Command’s Integrated Materiel Management Center at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.

In 1982, he was inducted into the U.S. Army Senior Executive Service and appointed as the Deputy Director for Weapons System Support, and then Deputy Director of the Supply and Maintenance Directorate for the U.S. Army Materiel Command at Alexandria, Virginia.

Mr. Mills culminated his career in 1997 when he was appointed as the first Executive Deputy to the Commanding General of U.S. Army Materiel Command at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He served as the lead for the Command Group in dealing with Base Closure and Realignment Commission activities and as the Chairman of the U.S. Army Materiel Command’s Board of Directors upgrading the command’s core business systems through the Logistics Modernization Program. Mr. Mills provided key leadership in the streamlining of U.S. Army Materiel Command’s seven Major Subordinate Commands into five, including the physical relocation of two of them and the initial planning for the relocation of U.S. Army Materiel Command itself.
