LTC John Kearney received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in Armor following graduation from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications. LTC Kearney also holds a Master of Science degree in Logistics Management from Florida Institute of Technology.
After Company Command and Advanced Civil Schooling, MAJ Kearney was assigned to the Combined Arms Support Command Directorate of Combat Developments, where he was selected to be the Project Officer for the Army’s Force XXI initiative to redesign the Division Support Command, resulting in all logistics support planning and execution being internal to the DISCOM.
Other notable assignments include Chief, Maintenance and Supply Division, Ordnance Center, where he was a key player in the consolidation of ammunition and maintenance into the first consolidated 91A course; Executive Officer to two Chiefs of Ordnance, MG Jackson and MG Stevenson; Chief of Plans, 3d COSCOM including a deployment to Iraq, where LTC Kearney was charged with identifying the footprint required for OIF 2 as well as the Transfer of Authority to 13th COSCOM; and finally, as the Chief of Proponency, Plans and Operations where he was pivotal in several EOD initiatives that included award of the Combat Action Badge for EOD missions, approval by the VCSA for a force structure increase of 1,300 Soldiers, growth of EOD companies to 44 Soldiers, and improved EOD retention bonuses.
LTC Kearney retired in 2006.
