Command Sergeant Major Luis Lopez contributed significantly to the Ordnance Corps and the U.S. Army during his 35 year career, serving in every enlisted position from his beginnings as a COMSEC Repairman to a Command Sergeant Major of a 2-Star Nominative Level Command.
CSM Lopez’s assignments include deployments in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Saudi Arabia; Operation Restore Hope, Mogadishu, Somalia; Operation Enduring Freedom, Bagram, Afghanistan; and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Camp Anaconda, Iraq. CSM Lopez’s emphasis on battle focused training, maintenance management, force protection, and readiness enabled his Soldiers to deploy into combat zones and return safely.
CSM Lopez excelled in leading Soldiers and Airman in conducting combat operations in support of Task Force 180 in Afghanistan as well as in support of the Multi-National Corps-Iraq. His leadership was the key contributor to the success of his units driving over 8 million miles across the most dangerous roads in the world; escorting more than 5000 convoys with over 60,000 vehicles transporting all classes of supplies necessary to support U.S. and coalition forces throughout Iraq and Afghanistan while providing maintenance company support on an area basis. As a result of the efficient and quality maintenance his unit provided in their sector, supported units maintained over a 95% readiness rate. CSM Lopez contributed in the development of tactics, techniques and procedures and piloted the development of a Convoy Commander's Certification Program. This certification standard was quickly adopted by numerous units in the 1st COSCOM (ABN).
CSM Lopez retired in February 2009.
