LTC Susan P. Carlson

LTC Susan P. CarlsonLieutenant Colonel Susan P. Carlson was born on 10 September 1957 in Augsburg, Germany. Lieutenant Colonel Carlson graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Master’s of Business Administration in 1981. Upon graduation, she was commissioned into the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps.

Lieutenant Colonel Carlson began her 24 year as the Special Weapons Officer for the 27th Ordnance Company, 59th Ordnance Brigade in Buren, Germany. From there, she continued to serve in positions ever-increasing in scope and responsibility; including; Company Command, SAACT, 6th Ordnance Battalion, Division Ammunition Officer, 1st Infantry Division, and Chief of Plans and Operations, 21st TAACOM.

From 1998-1999, Lieutenant Colonel Susan P. Carlson served as the Support Operations Officer for the 29th Support Group in Kaiserslautern, Germany. During this period her intensive management of high demand limited supply and new production items like Excalibur, Hellfire thermobaric missiles, 9mm ball and 155mm rounds ensured senior Army leaders were continually updated on the overall ammunition status in the Iraqi theater. She continually monitored production and expenditure of these critical items and identified other means of obtaining these critically short munitions to support the combatant commander’s war efforts.

Lieutenant Colonel Susan P. Carlson later served as the acting Division Chief Munitions Division, ODCS, G-4 in Washington, D.C. Here, her contributions to the Ordnance Corps continued to be immeasurable, having advised senior leaders on strategic ammunition issues concerning the Army’s 2.2M ton worldwide ammunition stockpile. LTC (R) Carlson is a legend in ammunition management and her impact and influence across the ammunition community is unmatched.

LTC Carlson retired on August 31st, 2005.
