CW4 Schwartz is a native of Chattanooga TN, born 1 January 1962. Chief Schwartz originally joined the Army Reserves as a 76P, Material Control and Accounting Specialist in 1981. Wanting to contribute more, she decided to go to Active duty and retrained as a 63W, Wheeled Vehicle Repairer in 1982.
Chief Schwartz spent the next 20 years in uniform serving in some of the most exciting assignments the Army had to offer. One of these assignments was in Fort Greely AK providing support to the Cold Region Test Center. Upon appointment to 630A, she was sent to Ft. Hood where she was immediately assigned to a Direct Support Maintenance Company, an assignment usually filled by a senior warrant officer. Her final assignment took her to Ft. Benning where she served as the Support Maintenance Technician for a FORSCOM Engineer Group consisting of a Corps Support Battalion with Transportation, Ordnance, and separate Maintenance companies.
Having been only the 7th female in the history of the Ordnance Corps to be selected an Automotive Maintenance Officer at the time of her appointment, CW4 Schwartz exceeded in a traditional world, dominated by males. Urged by dedicated leaders in her chain of command as a young soldier to submit her appointment packet, she made the right decision and our Army has benefited from it. It wasn’t easy in those early years, but as her assignments and evaluations attest, she earned the respect from her peers in every assignment.
CW4 Linda S. Schwartz retired on July 1st, 2002.
