Mr. Thomas J. Edwards

Mr. Thomas J. EdwardsMr. Thomas J. Edwards began his federal career in 1978 after receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Ohio State University and a Master of Science in Administration from UC Irvine.

Mr. Edwards held many positions during his career with a variety of notable assignments. He coordinated with the Defense Logistics Agency and the United States Army Transportation Command to reduce cycle time on key DoD supply chains which affected Army customers. This cut Army customer wait time from 26 days to nine days for United States customers and from 34 to 11 days for overseas customers. Ordnance maintenance personnel benefited from his efforts the past 25 years.

Mr. Edwards led the team which organized, equipped, trained, and certified the logistics elements of the Army’s newest combat organization, the Stryker Brigade. He played a key role in developing the 12 week leadership and management program for mid-level supervisors and technical experts along with creating the Army Management Staff College. He developed the concept, tested, and wrote the requirement for the Palletized Load System, a truck with a demountable bed to support combat distribution for land forces.

Mr. Edwards’ most notable awards include the Presidential Rank - Distinguished Executive in 1999; Presidential Rank - Meritorious Executive in 1995 and 2007; President’s Award for Merit, International Society of Logistics, SOLE in 2004; and Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service in 1989, 2006 and 2008.

Mr. Edwards retired in October 2008 after 30 years of federal service.
