Mr. Martin Moratz began his career as a Department of Defense Civilian in 1989 as the Project Lead to the Branch Chief at the Armament Research Development Center at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ. He had a brief reposition as the Artillery Branch Chief before being assigned as the Advanced System Division Chief at Program Manager Combat Ammunition Systems.
In 2010, Mr. Moratz was assigned to his culminating and most notable position in which he would leave a lasting impact on the Conventional Ammunition Division (CAD) as the Chief. In FY11, he personally led CAD efforts to deliver over 2.6M indirect fire products which was recognized by DoD with the Packard Award for Excellence in Acquisition in 2012.
Under Mr. Moratz leadership the CAD organization delivered major improvements in conventional indirect fires leading to three Urgent Materiel Releases (UMR), six Full Materiel Releases (FMR), and six Type Classification Standards supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. He was the driving force behind significant cost effective improvements to artillery and mortar ammunition. He also presided over the implementation of several key safety improvements such as the integration of IMX-101 Insensitive Munition Explosive which was named one of “The 50 Best Inventions of 2010” by Time Magazine.
Mr. Moratz’s awards include the Department of the Army Superior Civilian Service Award, Commander’s Award for Civilian Service, and Achievement Medal for Civilian Service.
Mr. Moratz retired in 2014 serving as a DoD Civilian for 25 years.
