SGM Manuel A. PerezSGM Manuel A. Perez was born in El Paso, Texas in 1971. He came into the Army Reserve (Delayed entry program) as a 63W, Wheel Vehicle Repairer in November of 1994. He attended Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Advanced Individual Training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MA.

He was assigned to the 257th TC CO in Las Vegas, NV. In February 1995, he joined the Active Army component and was assigned to 549th Maintenance Company in Kaiserslautern, Germany where he served as a Mechanic, Squad leader, Quality control Quality assurance NCO, Section Sergeant, and Maintenance Control Sergeant. During his tour in Germany, he completed a 6 month rotation to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Arabian Fury.

In December 1999 to June 2001, he was reassigned to the 183rd Maintenance Company at Fort Carson, CO and later served as to the Shop Foreman, Section Sergeant, and Platoon Sergeant with the 64th FSB, Bravo Company, Fort Carson, CO.

In June 2001 to August 2002, he was reassigned with the 55th MMC in Fort Belvoir, VA where he took on the leadership responsibilities as the Senior Mechanic and NCOIC of the Emergency Control Center during September 11, 2001.

In 2002, SGM Perez joined the AGR program where he was assigned to the NCO Academy at Fort Lewis, WA. From August 2002 to September 2006, he served as a Small Group Leader Instructor/ Squad Leader, Senior Small Group Leader/ Platoon Sergeant, and the WLC Course Manager. While at Fort Lewis he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and to Ecuador, South America in support of a USARSO mission for the United States Southern Command where he helped train the Ecuadorian Army Senior NCOs.

In October of 2006 to June 2010 he was reassigned to the 483rd Transportation Battalion (Terminal) as the Battalion Motor Sergeant in Mare Island, CA. While assigned to the 483rd he filled in for 483rd HHD 1SG and as the Battalion CSM in his absence. He also filled the role of Senior Enlisted AGR, Physical Security Officer, Unit Victim Advocate, Additional Duty Safety Officer, Fuel Credit Card Manager, Unit Prevention Leader, Motor Pool Facility Coordinator, Facility Environmental Coordinator, MWO and GSA Coordinator.

In July of 2010 SGM Perez was reassigned to the 9th MSC in Fort Shafter, Hawaii and assigned as the G-4 Maintenance Management NCO. A Staff Advisor for 8 major subordinate units and directly represented the G4 to PACOM, USARPAC, and USARC.

In Aug of 2011 SGM Perez was selected to attend Sergeants Major Academy class 62, Residence course, at USASMA.

In July of 2012 SGM Perez was reassigned to Regional Training Sites (RTS) - Maintenance, Fort McCoy, Wisconsin as the Chief Operations NCO.

In August of 2013 SGM Perez was reassigned to the U.S. Army Ordnance School Reserve Component Office, Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia and assigned as the Senior Enlisted Advisor. SGM Perez was also assigned as the Army Reserve Proponent Advisor (ARPA) for Ordnance, formerly known as Senior Personnel Management Advisor (SPMA).

Sergeant Major Manuel A. Perez was assigned to United States Army North (Fifth Army) and became the Army Reserve Engagement Cell, Senior Enlisted Advisor, United States Army North (Fifth Army) on 26 February 2016.

Sergeant Major Manuel A. Perez retired on 1 Feb, 2019 after 24 years of service.

SGM Perez is a graduate of Basic Training, Wheeled Vehicle Repairer (63W) Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Small Arms Maintenance 31 Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basis Noncommissioned Officers Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, AGR Entrance Training Course, Total Army Instructors Training Course, Small Group Instructor Training Course, Unit Victim Advocate Course, Physical Security Course, Addition Duty Safety Officer Course, Additional Duty Commander’s Safety Course, Battle Staff, First Sergeant Course and the USASMA Sergeants Major Residents Course Class 62, and Executive Leaders Course Class 17-02 (now the Nominative Leaders Course) at the United States Army War College.

His awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (second oak leaf cluster), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (second oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (silver oak leaf cluster), Army Good Conduct Medal (bronze clasps, 4 loops), National Defense Service Medal (service star), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (“M” device, , bronze hourglass device), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 6), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon and the Combat Action Badge. While he was assigned to the U.S. NCO Academy, the unit received the Joint Meritorious Unit Award.

He has an Associate’s Degree in General studies from Pikes Peak Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts with a minor in History from Excelsior College and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Excelsior College.
