Major General Kurt J. Ryan

Major General Kurt J. RyanMajor General Kurt J. Ryan made enduring contributions to the United States and the Department of Defense (DoD) while serving more than 34 years in the United States Army. MG Ryan's distinguished career encompassed leadership at every level. He distinguished himself as a true Soldier and Leader which was instrumental in providing global, decisive action readiness in support of U.S., DoD, and Coalition forces engaged in nearly two decades of conflict and during a period of unprecedented high operational tempo, global engagements, and substantial force modernization.

General Ryan was the first Commanding General of the 593rd. His leadership and understanding of logistics across the echelons transformed what was a sustainment brigade to a sustainment command capable of providing support across the I Corps in support of the Indo-PACOM AOR.

From the 593rd General Ryan next assumed the duties of the 39th Chief of Ordnance. He led the Ordnance Corps in the creation of the first Maintenance terrain Walk video that was designed to educate young leaders in building their maintenance readiness programs. This video initiated the school's effort to increase maintenance management skills across the Army. His outstanding leadership also led the school in the creation of the Unit Diagnostics Immersion Programs for the Abrams Tank, Bradley FoV, Paladin Howitzer, and the Stryker FoV programs. This intensive "train the trainer" locally held event quickly invigorated Soldier maintenance skill sets and had an immediate effect on the various systems readiness rates at the respective installations. General Ryan also led the school to receive the award of "Institution of Excellence" certification during the 2015 TRADOC Accreditation Inspection/Review.

General Ryan's career culminated as the Deputy Chief of Staff G4, U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) where he worked tirelessly to increase the overall materiel readiness of the 750,000+ command consisting of active Army, Reserve and National Guard units all across CONUS.

General Ryan holds a Bachelor's of Science from the York College of Pennsylvania and is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College. a graduate of Harvard University's National & International Security Seminar. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit w/OLC, Bronze Star w/OLC, Defense Meritorious Service Medal w/OLC, Meritorious Service Medal w/ OLC, and the Master Parachutist Badge.

Major General Ryan retired in June 2021.
