Master Sergeant Christopher R. DeCosta

Master Sergeant Christopher R. DeCosta completed a distinguished 26-year career in the U.S. Army Reserve, demonstrating exceptional expertise and leadership within the logistics community. Culminating in his role as the Army Reserve Senior Ground Maintenance Non-Commissioned Officer, Master Sergeant DeCosta spearheaded a transformative overhaul of the Army Reserve Maintenance Program, re-establishing a maintenance-first culture crucial to readiness. His efforts directly impacted the readiness of over 300,000 pieces of equipment across more than 4,500 units.

Throughout his service, Master Sergeant DeCosta provided critical mentorship to 27 major subordinate commands, conducting workshops and offering hands-on training in maintenance management and data accuracy. He led three GCSS-A data cleansing events, correcting discrepancies and improving equipment reporting for key commands. His expertise extended to training General Officer-level leaders on GCSS-A and the Army Readiness-Common Operating Picture (AR-COP). He also revitalized the Army Reserve Maintenance Managers Course, training over 300 Soldiers and Civilians in essential maintenance practices.

Master Sergeant DeCosta’s impact extends beyond program management. He was instrumental in the Army Reserve’s transition to GCSS-A while serving with the 302nd TTB, increasing organizational readiness from 78% to 95%. His diligence as a Senior Maintenance Supervisor with the 971st MEDLOG Company averted a $450,000 Financial Liability Investigation of Property Loss, and his training at Fort McCoy increased student throughput by 80%.

Deployments to Iraq (2002-2004) and Kosovo (2000-2001) demonstrated his ability to lead maintenance operations in challenging environments, supporting multiple units and ensuring equipment readiness. Throughout his career, Master Sergeant DeCosta consistently fostered professional development opportunities for NCOs, Soldiers, and Officers, shaping a more effective and efficient Army Reserve maintenance force.
