TWI-LANL is Army EOD's opportunity to access the latest explosive tool developments and associated safety standards. Participant directly engages with validation of new tools and equipment in a scientific lab environment and is exposed to testing for more effective disposal of Insensitive High Explosive (IHE) munitions. This new knowledge base is critical to EOD equipment modernization, force design updates, and doctrine. Applicant will work closely with the Ordnance School to recommend improvements on lessons learned. Applicant is required to produce reports/presentations on experience and lessons learned while participating in the TWI Program. Applicant possesses a Top Secret security clearance.
Description of TWI Duties:
Participant is assigned to the Dynamic Experiments Division, Explosive Applications and Special Projects Group. This group uses a broad range of engineering expertise in the research and development (R&D) and testing and evaluation (T&E) of solutions to national security issues, T&E of explosive safety of current weapons, and utilizing R&D/T&E of explosive applications to mitigate emerging threats. Participant also contributes to the LANL Joint Homemade Explosives (HME) Course and bridges the gap from explosive scientist to tactical application of HME identification and mitigation.

Description of TWI Duties:
Applicant will rotate through multiple departments at Caterpillar to participate in training sessions and seminars that may include, but are not limited to web based training, diesel engine repair, electronic troubleshooting, hydraulic hose/coupling assembly, and specific maintenance of the D7R-II Dozer, 924H wheel loader, 120M motor grader, marine, and truck engines. Applicant may participate in testing and development of new equipment, maintenance procedures, and Lean Six Sigma. Applicant will gain an understanding of how Caterpillar supports the entire Department of Defense.

Soldier learns innovative industrial management tactics, techniques, and procedures within the welding industry. Soldier may participate in but is not limited to the Lincoln Electric Welding Schools, including Advanced Robotics Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and the motorsports materials courses. Soldier may also participate in Six Sigma training, workshops, welding design seminars, and other conventions relating to the welding industry.

U.S. Army TWI participants are administratively assigned to the United States Army's Student Detachment (USASD) at Fort Jackson, SC. The Land Warfare and Air Defense division of Raytheon is the assigned mission area that provides the day-to-day responsibility for the TWI position. Within the first 30 days, the host TWI company and the TWI participant submit a training plan to the proponent's office. The training plan provides a detailed outline for desired training objectives and general learning objectives in partner management practices, acquisitions, technology, and mechanical engineering.
Description of TWI Duties:
The Training with Industry (TWI) program enhances DoD personnel's professional, technical, and executive management areas in the commercial Defense Industrial Base. At the same time, experiences may be different for each military service member and various occupational skills. The “rotational” style training implemented by Raytheon provides the TWI participant with a uniquely tailored experience that goes in-depth into the techniques and industrial procedures of the various Raytheon directorates.

Description of TWI Duties:
The Training with Industry (TWI) participant will gain a working knowledge of the maintenance and production of the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS), and PAC 3 Missile for the Patriot and the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD). The NCO will obtain an in depth understanding of Environmental safety and Hazards, and the production of the artillery and missile systems. The NCO will understand how to operate facilities in a compliant responsible manner that protects the environment, surrounding communities and conserve natural resources. The leader will obtain an understanding of production control and quality assurance in regards to all missile and artillery platforms.
